CHC Lesson Plans: Third Grade

With ease and flexibility, CHC Lesson Plans guide you through all core and non-core subjects while providing enrichment activities to engage and challenge a third-grade student. Growing in maturity and acquiring independent learning skills are important goals this year. These skills are reinforced in a variety of ways: all core subjects encourage independent work; Independent Study Charts guide the student through the subjects; and "Independent Learning Ideas" are offered throughout the lesson plan.

This lesson plan features independent study charts, creative book report ideas, reading comprehension worksheets, "Tour a Country" Course, and an inspirational Rosary project. The "ready-to-go" ideas in the supplemental student courses make these lesson plans especially popular. Easily adaptable, complementary additions to your Social Studies and Religion courses! And don't overlook the benefit of creative book report ideas for the reluctant writer. In addition, a wealth of material enhances the subjects: 50 Memory Gems, reading comprehension worksheets, illustrated "Books Read" charts, and illustrated charts (chores, virtue, service), recess and P.E. ideas, 22 Catholic math games, and more.

  • Tour a Country: Catholic Social Studies Course

Take a trip through the world and visit different countries and cultures! Don't forget your passport and to "pack" the appropriate clothing--you want to be prepared whether you travel down the Amazon by boat, climb the Alps, or cross the Sahara on camels. This hands-on course is an engaging introduction to world cultures and geography. Your child will "tour" a country each month and create a travel brochure for each. Explore the selected countries' cultures, geographical features, historical landmarks, Catholic shrines, and saints. Pick and choose from a large variety of optional activities including art, customs, languages, literature, and crafts.

  • At the Feet of Mary: Holy Rosary Project

Expose your child to the beauty of the Holy Rosary as taught by Pope John Paul II. The hands-on project introduces the twenty Mysteries of the Rosary while making a Rosary Book to lead the family rosary. Features original artwork by Anna May McCallum. In addition, the course includes discussion topics, Marian Shrine Guides, Simple Meditations for Children, and more. This project is a special hands-on tool for living the Faith.

  • Creative Book Reports

A complete resource for assigning book reports: checklists, guidelines, decorated report forms, and more. Is your student overwhelmed or reluctant to do a standard written report? Gently introduce him to report writing with a variety of creative ideas in three categories: Art and Crafts, Oral, and Written. “We have home educated our children since 1997. When we first began, we had no idea of all of the resources that were available for Catholic Homeschoolers. When we found CHC we felt that we had been sent such a tremendous blessing, in more ways than one! One of the wonderful resources that we greatly appreciated was the early grade lesson plans. We purchased grades K-5, and loved all of it, including the little "extras" that came with the lesson plans. They are very user-friendly, and are adaptable for each individual that uses them. These were a life saver to a new homeschooling mom, and an easy way to stay organized. We have now adopted 3 young children, and are starting all over again. We are working on purchasing all of the lesson plans again, and believe they will be as great a help now, as they were when we first began home education! God bless you all at CHC, and keep up the wonderful work!”
