Life Science: All Creatures Great and Small
Michael J. Spear

This excellent science program is a favorite course for Catholic homeschool students. The text is well writen and comprehensive and features a strong pro-life bent. The late Mr. Spear, father of seven and science teacher for over a decade, strongly felt that a deep interest in science leads to a stronger faith because "the genuine scientist is a seeker of truth." The Teacher's Manual includes a suggested schedule for using the course over one year (eighth grade) or two years (seventh-eighth grades). Complete set includes the Student Text, Catholic Supplement, and Teacher's Manual.

The Student Text contains 25 chapters including Cells, Protists, Fungi, Plants, Animals, Nutrition, Disease, Systems of the Body, Ecology, and many others. 223 pages. Softcover.

In the Catholic Supplement, the author shares suggestions and observations that will help parents and students see some of the ways that our Faith is integrated with our study of life science. Topics of particular importance in our current world include: contraception, abortion, AIDS, use of alcohol and other drugs, and "mercy" killing. 14 pages.

The Teacher's Manual is an extremely helpful resource, offering suggestions for each chapter (objectives, fun, emphasize, think, and extra credit) and a complete answer key by the author. 40 pages.

Recommended core text in CHC Lesson Plan Guide for Middle School Years.

“I really enjoyed Biology and have decided to pursue it possibly as a career since using this book. It was amazing and really opened up the beauty and perfection in God's creation down to the Atom. I would definitely recommend it.”
