Phonics & Reading

Little Stories for Little Folks was designed for this purpose: to provide an affordable, Catholic phonics program to Catholic homeschooling families. Most beginning reading programs contain large illustrations, lots of "white space," and as few as fifteen or twenty words per story. Hence, to reach the same word exposure and level of fluency as offered in Little Stories, the parent must often purchase a much larger program or several books, at a far greater expense. Little Stories contains few illustrations and a minimum of "white space," but nearly 7,000 words, giving the child maximum word exposure and reading practice at a minimum price. It is not unusual for children who are taught to read with Little Stories for Little Folks to test at least two years above grade level in reading when they have completed the program.

“I am a Homeschooling grandmother for my two grandsons. I retired from teaching a year ago after 40 years in public schools. My daughter and son-in-law live next door and asked me to please consider homeschooling, especially with a Catholic curriculum. I searched many sites and kept coming back to CHC. We began in September 2013 doing preK and Kindergarten. I could combine some of their work in the beginning and then my older grandson went into the Little Stories phonics readers. I am very pleased with his progress. He had hearing and speech difficulties as a toddler, so the phonics is helping him with his sounds. We really like the stories and how God plays a role in them. As he reads, my younger grandson likes to hear the stories too! I will start him in them next year. I could teach without any formal curriculum, but I really like this program and the lesson plans. May God bless all of you for providing a great curriculum.”

“My children are able to apply the lessons they've learned from CHC materials (Little Stories, Devotional Stories, 1st Communion) to their everyday life. I often hear 'Remember that story about.....?' or 'I get it! This book reminded me about ....!' The characters in your books are incredibly 'real' to my children.”
