From Sea to Shining Sea: The Story of America

This textbook is absolutely tremendous, telling the story of North America, covering the Indian nations, European colonization, and history of the United States up to the 20th century. Told as a series of stories with thumbnail biographies, lives of the saints, maps, and other supplemental material. Engagingly written, with age-appropriate vocabulary and style, and generous explanations of new terms. Stupendous! Students will find the lavish use of color photos and drawings very attractive. 5th grade on up. 466 pgs. Hardcover. Full color. 8"x9½"

The Teacher's Manual is as well done as the textbook and offers goals, activities, quizzes, tests, and an answer key for the questions in the textbook. 178 pgs.

The Workbook (optional) includes varied styles of exercises for each section in the textbook. Workbook pages can be assigned instead of the review questions provided in the text. Answer key available separately. 118 pgs.

CHC’s Answer Key to the Workbook is formatted for maximum ease of use. For answers to the questions in the text, purchase the Teacher’s Manual. For answers to the workbook, purchase this answer key.

A Hands-On Study Guide to this text is included in CHC Lesson Plans for Fifth Grade. A single-subject lesson plan that includes the Hands-On Study Guide is available here.

“My son has free reading time at the end of our regular subjects. He generally chooses some book from the library or other entertaining fiction. Yesterday instead, he asked for his history book From Sea to Shining Sea because he "wanted to know how it turned out." He has never asked to read any other textbook in 3 years of homeschooling. Thanks for the great resources!”

“I wanted to thank you for all the wonderful suggested enrichment activities in the Hands-On Study Guides for All Ye Lands and From Sea to Shining Sea [included in the grade-level lesson plans and the single-subject lesson plans]. For example, my son (6th grade) just finished the All Ye Lands chapter on Russia. We visited the suggested website to learn about the two American priests serving in Russia. Oh! What an eye-opening site. We are so used to reading about missionaries in places like Africa and India. But Russia! It really hit home because of our family's Eastern European heritage. And my heart went out to all those orphans...Then we were able to find The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima so the children and I have been watching two parts per day. And I mean all the kids--not just my 6th grader. It has sparked lots of discussion! The entire family is enriched by the enrichment activities!”
