Question: We just found out that we are expecting our sixth child. We have a 13 year old son with moderate Autism and a 14 month old baby that was born with club foot. I have to say that I feel overwhelmed and haven't been able to stop crying since I found out I was pregnant. I feel guilty too, because shouldn't I be happy instead of feeling an overwhelming despair? Dealing with an Autistic son who is becoming even more difficult, money troubles and now trying to figure out how we can purchase a different house seem so overwhelming. I don't even want to tell family or friends because of their reaction over the last baby! I have only my husband to confide in and I know he feels his own burdens. So that is why I thought that maybe you could impart some wisdom to help me over this very rough patch. Bless you!
Answer:

Dear Mom,

The first thing we are going to do is hold each other and pray. We are going to pray because we know the complete power and comfort in turning our hearts, minds, and spirits over to the Lord. We are going to trust that nothing happens without the Lord's complete knowledge and permission. We are going to rest in the truth that Jesus will bring good from sorrow and desires that we unite our sorrows to His tender care so that He has our permission to transform our sorrow into joy, understanding and empowerment. We are going to believe with all our being that God is in every moment and because God is there in each moment miracles are continually happening.

Jesus, we ask that through Your tender and loving mercy You empower our dear sister in Christ that she may know and fully believe in Your care for her. Lord, we ask that You hold her close this moment and do so in such a way that she can truly feel the power of Your presence during her sorrows. Lord, we praise You and thank You for the gift of life. Lord, lift each woman who bears new life up and give them the courage to walk hand in hand with You during those times that are filled with confusion and sorrow. Lord, we ask for healing for this dear mom's son. Please allow that he be healed from the top of his head to the tips of his toes. Bring him to a place whereby he is able to experience the fullness of life on this earth. Surround him with persons who are capable of guiding and teaching him each step of the way. Help his parents to learn peacefully the meaning of all that autism is and the ways they will have to cope with this diagnosis and the empowerment to move according to Your will to care for their son. Lord, we ask that this family's little baby with clubfoot be given the best of medical care. Lead these parents to the resources that will allow for surgeries and medical care that is healing and beneficial. Jesus, please guard and protect the new life this mom carries at this time. Tenderly and gently embrace this mom and baby that they will know the benefit of good nutrition, adequate rest and helpful counsel from those who care for them. We love You, Lord, and long with all our hearts to see Your face amidst our sorrows and sufferings. We bind our sorrows to those of You on the cross of suffering and ask that You accept our childlike desire to be comforted through Your care. Amen.

When times in our life are difficult and beyond the beyond it is at those times that Jesus is as close to us as we are able to imagine. Sit quietly before the Blessed Sacrament and let the strength and the power of the Lord's love heal you. I have found enormous healing in front of the Blessed Sacrament. There have been times when I have felt that I couldn't move another step because my spirit was so heavy laden. Then after prayer and quiet time with the Lord I seem to get my second wind and I am able to get moving beyond the rough patch.

Seek the advice of your health care provider when you are facing sorrows that are overwhelming. Many times we try too hard to deal with issues on our own only to receive a partial relief. There are medicines and helps available for those who are in need. Sometimes there needs to be a change in diet or an addition of vitamins or medication. Remember that the Lord is able to work through all these resources.

Trust in my daily prayers for you. I find in you a woman of strength and a true holy and pure witness. Please know that I admire you very much and feel very blest to have been given the opportunity to write to you. Thank you for sharing your needs with this forum. Please write again and allow me to pray with you through our prayers. I will be washing my hands for you all day.

Sending out a prayer,

Rita Munn
