Question: Hi Rita, can you provide me with some of your wisdom when it comes to confession? I go in with my list and aim to get in and out as quick as possible. How can I make my confessions more spiritual? I am looking forward to hearing from you. Many blessings on you and your family!
Answer:

Dear Mom,

When I am in sorrow because I have sinned or fallen short I feel sick or dead in my spirit. I have turned my back upon the dearest of companions. I have given up and listened to the Tempter who is the author of lies. I have such a longing to be healed and to be brought back to life. I go to Reconciliation and speak to the priest as if he were Jesus. I will say, 'Jesus, I just want to tell you how sorry I am for having lost my patience with the precious child that You have entrusted to my care. Jesus, I am so sad that I gossiped about my friend for I feel that I did not try to understand her situation.' and so on until my confession is complete. I like to speak this way because it helps me to fully appreciate that it is Jesus, my heart's desire, that I am hurting or not trusting in to be there for me. I love the Lord dearly and feel that He loves me dearly. I want to be healed completely so that I can begin again.

In the evening the last thing that I say before I go to sleep is  'Jesus, I love You in the Blessed Sacrament. I long to see Your face.' At night when we pray the rosary as a family we always end with an Act of Contrition. It helps me to sort through my day and to become peaceful for the evening time.

Jesus loves us so much. He wants to heal us in every way. He knows intimately the struggles, the sorrows and the burdens that we carry. He is not a bystander in our lives but a companion of greatest comfort. Our life here on earth is merely a waiting room for our life in our real Home.

You are a beautiful woman of faith. You are a Proverbs woman. Anytime we seek to know the Lord more intimately or to understand more clearly the power of His love we will be rewarded. You have a heart for the Lord and this heart for Him is the greatest comfort one can experience on earth. Pray to know more fully the power present in the Sacraments. Jesus loves the heart of a seeker. You are seeking Him. How beautiful.

Let us pray together a Hail Mary for all the women who are hurting or feel dead inside due to sorrows beyond their comprehension. Let us offer our prayers for their intentions as they struggle to make sense of the pain that confronts them today.  Thank you for your holy witness and your prayers.

Sending out a prayer,

Rita Munn
