Question:

I am having a hard time keeping up with my kids, reading all they read, so I was wondering if I could combine history for my 7th grader and my 5th grader. My question is can I use Christ and the Americas with my 5th grader as well? Thank you for your guidance.

Answer:

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your question.

History---really most social studies subjects---is very simple to teach at once to several different grades. All you need to do is expect a little more from your 7th grader, than from your 5th grader. Perhaps this will involve expecting 8 paragraphs from your 7th grader, and only 5 from your 5th grader. Or, if your students are making a map, the 7th grader will need to add more detail to his than your 5th grader will to his.

Regarding Christ and the Americas, please be aware that the intended age level of this text is highschool. CHC's Lesson Plan Guide recommends it as a reference tool for 7th graders, to assist students in their research for "Timeline of the Republic."

God bless you and your family!
