Question: My 3rd grader received help in reading for approximately 1 1/2 years at our local public school. I withdrew him at Christmas break. Along with the public school reading, I had been doing [a different reading program other than CHC's] with him. It has a spelling components plus this school year, the public school was giving spelling tests. Now to my question, I started him in My Catholic Speller, Level B in January. He just finished lesson 9. He will not finish this book before the end of the school year. Would it be beneficial to have him finish it either during the summer or next school year before starting Speller C?
Answer:

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your question!

I think it would be a good idea to finish the spelling book.  However, only you can determine if he is ready for the next grade in spelling.  If you feel that he is ready, you could try him with Speller C, and see how that goes. If he has trouble with it, you can always go back to Speller B.  My suggestion is that you first finish Level B, perhaps during the summer, and continue to Speller C when he is finished.  It is important not to skip over anything whenever you are teaching, unless you absolutely know he is ready to move on.

God bless you and your family!
