Question: I have decided to pull my 6th grader out of school after this semester. Will I be able to do this? Should I go through the lesson plans and mark off everything she covered in the 1st semester and go from there? I don't want her to miss anything--I want to stay caught up. My reasoning is that I would like to get "my feet wet" with my older daughter first before pulling the others out. If all goes well, next fall I would like to homeschool all of them. I'm just not sure how to go about it half way through the year. I have been told it is a popular time for first time homeschool moms to begin.
Answer:

Dear Mom,

It would probably be best for you to purchase the curriculum and begin at the beginning, covering the material at a pace that best suits your daughter. As with all changes there is bound to be some gaps and overlaps of information. This can actually work to your daughter's favor in that covering material that she feels confident with will give her an added measure of momentum when she reaches those topics that are not as familiar. I feel certain that she will be more interested in the experience of homeschooling than in her progress and in that you will be blest as she too 'gets her feet wet'. I am the type of person who takes comfort in beginning at the beginning.

Go forward into the plan, praying to know the path at each crossroads.

Let us offer up our prayers this morning for all those families that are beginning difficult walks today. Let us ask that the Lord shower them with inspiration and empowerment as they navigate unfamiliar waters. All things for the honor and glory of the Lord.

Sending out a prayer,

Rita Munn
