Question: I am using your handwriting series this year. I really love it, and so do my boys! The simplicity and holy messages are awesome! However, I noticed the 2nd grade book does not cover cursive. Is there a reason for this? Am I using the wrong book (Level 2)? I thought cursive writing was taught with second grade.
Answer:

Dear Parent,

We’re so pleased that you and your boys are enjoying Catholic Heritage Handwriting; we truly appreciate your kind feedback.

As a general rule, the focus of 3rd grade penmanship is cursive, while 2nd grade penmanship is devoted to mastery of manuscript.  Some schools finish out the 2nd grade year with introductory cursive, or with a program that introduces strokes to be used in actual cursive letter formation in 3rd grade.

One great advantage to homeschooling is that parents may certainly move their students up to the next level when the previous level is mastered.

We are blessed to be able to homeschool!

Thank you again for your kind note; you are a blessing to us, too.

In Their Hearts,

Theresa Johnson
