Question: Next fall we transition our school to CHC from [structured, pre-packaged curriculum]. My son who is starting grade 4 this fall has completed grade 3 well and I am uncertain how to choose the specific level of CHC spelling and grammar. Your "tour" of the lesson plans shows the most information I can locate with a few sample pages and table of contents. He can diagram simple sentences and compound sentences with adverbs, adjectives and differing predicates. Thank you for your generosity and any help you can offer! God bless you!

Dear Parent;

If your son is diagramming sentences as you indicate, he is right on top of his grammar game.  Well done!

It appears that your son is working above standard grade level in grammar, so you may wish to move him right into Language of God, Level D, which is normally used in fifth grade.  If his mastery of spelling matches his grammar level, he could probably handle My Catholic Speller, Level D, as well.  However, to avoid burnout, if the higher level work becomes onerous to him, you also have the freedom to drop down to what would be his natural grade level.  He would still be exactly where he should be academically, and would probably sail through with a smile on his face.

May our good Jesus bless and guide you as you snuggle and school your children toward eternity!
