Question: My child has Down's Syndrome. I was hoping you may be able to help me with a curriculum and some support for him. He is still young but I would like to homeschool him as I have done with our other children. Thank you for any help.
Answer:

Dear Parent,

A book I would highly recommend is called Early Education for Children With Down Syndrome, by Valentin Dmitriev, who is an expert at teaching children with Down's Syndrome. She was an early and strong proponent of step by step phonics-based reading for Downs students, with the result that her Downs students read well at five and six years old!

My suggestion is that you use Little Stories for Little Folks from CHC, as it provides a strong phonics foundation, and also follow a learning program as outlined by Valentin Dmitriev.

Downs Syndrome is not my field of expertise, however you might find the following internet link useful as you decide the curriculum for your son: http://www.riverbendds.org/index.htm

God bless you and your family!
