Question: We are currently looking into a different program for next year. We are interested in CHC but are wondering about state testing. Is it truly necessary? We may in the future send our children back to a private school; will not having the testing or any "official" documentation of our children's progress be a problem?
Answer:

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your question!

State testing requirements vary from state to state.  You need to contact your board of education or your local school district to find out the requirements for homeschoolers.  They will tell you if your child needs to be tested and how often.  In Oregon, while I was homeschooled, the school district required that I take the state test yearly.  You do have to meet the requirements of your state in order to homeschool.  My suggestion is that you create a portfolio of your child's best work throughout the school year.  This can be useful if and when you transition your children back into private school.  I would definitely save the child's report cards, and the results of his state testing, with the portfolio.

God bless you and your family!
