Other than viewing the sample pages for the two books, you would need to buy them.  There is no placement test for either My Catholic Speller or the Language of God series.  I think there are two options you could take:  You could buy the books according to where you think they place right now.  If you find that the books are too difficult for them, you can set them aside for next year, and use the books that are a grade below.  OR, you could buy the books according to where they would be if they were not advanced.  This means that you would use the books as review, as they will find the materials very easy at first.  I would suggest doing this, because then you make sure that your children are ready to advance to the next grade.  Plus, they will speed through the books, and they might find that enjoyable.
