Question: I am planning to begin my son, 5 (6 in Nov) with your first grade materials in the fall. He has not had any formal training so far but even so, I think he is ready for first grade. I am thinking of ordering Little Stories for Little Folks in the next couple of days and beginning with it right away. I am hoping to use it as a test/review to make sure we are up to speed before the fall. My question is if you think this sounds like a good, workable plan. May I ask your opinion? Do you have other recommendations?

Dear Parent;

You are a wise parent, to make sure your child is well prepared before beginning formal schooling in first grade!

Yes, your idea to begin right away with Little Stories for Little Folks is a good one.  Be sure to use the Parents' Guide from the beginning.  Even though you may [or may not have] already have done similar pre-reading activities, it is important not to skip steps to insure maximum reading success.  If your son already knows the skills, he will fly through the exercises; if not, the time focused on preparation will be well spent.

Good, workable plan, Mom!

May God bless and guide you in this great homeschooling adventure,

Nancy Nicholson
