Question: I am a grandmother who is beginning to homeschool my 10 year old grandson. I have homeschooled one high school daughter several years ago. Are other grandmothers homeschooling? Is there any support for this?
Answer:

Dear Grandmother,

More power to you! I admire you very much for taking on this important work. It is obvious that you are being led through prayer to this task. Certainly the dear Jesus will empower you and inspire you to continue with faithfulness and peace.

I do not know if there are forums exclusively designed for grandmothers who are teaching their grandchildren. I would suggest that you contact those moms that you know who are already homeschooling. Perhaps you can attend social gatherings or meetings with other moms and maybe grandmothers. In our cooperative school which my girls attend once a week, there are two grandmothers who are homeschooling grandchildren. They are faithful to the tasks at hand and their wisdom is a gift which others feel grateful to witness.

Let us pray together a Memorare and offer up our prayers for all those grandmothers who find that they are separated from their grandchildren due to misunderstandings, etc. Too many times families fail to seek understanding and forgiveness and remember that the most important gift that children will have is the love of an extended family. Lord, help us to seek Your guidance during difficult situations. Amen.

Sending out a prayer,

Rita Munn
