Question: My husband and I have decided to take our almost 5yr old out of the public preschool and start homeschooling. I have purchased the pre-K and Kindergarten curriculum and wondered if I should start with preschool or Kindergarten. He is familiar with all letters and numbers 1-20. I don't want to bore him but at the same time I am hoping to maybe "work out some of the kinks" I may run into homeschooling as this is my first time, before Fall. I thought I could even go through the summer if things were going well. Where to begin?
Answer:

Dear Parent,

Thank you for your question!

It sounds as though your son will do well with the kindergarten lesson plans. Because he is familiar with all the letters and numbers 1-20, he is off to a good start. Besides learning his numbers and letters, he will also learn to tell time, use money, fractions, simple addition and subtraction. He will also learn basic religion topics, such as the Ten Commandments, Advent, Lent and other important holy days. In the non-core subjects your son will also learn about holidays and traditions, exploring nature, colors and shapes with appreciation of music and singing. There are also so many enrichment activities in the kindergarten lesson plans, that I think this will keep him from being bored. If you find that he is, you can always accelerate through the program, but also ensure that he is learning everything mapped out in the lesson plans.

God bless you and your family!
