Question: I am struggling to find a good book list of the classics for my 11 and 13 year old. We love the reading included in the curriculum and I have my own, yet very limited list. Can you help me? Thanks in advance.
Answer:

Dear Parent,

Yes, the Classical Christian Education Support Group has a wonderful on line list of classics, including poetry. The list is separated into age groups, so you can quickly find classics for your children. These books are Christian rather than exclusively Catholic. Here is an explanation from the website as to the criteria used to select the books:

Does the book have literary value? Does the book re-emphasize a Biblical worldview or the Judeo-Christian heritage in some way? Does the book teach, through whatever means, what is moral or just or true? Does the book encourage to love and good works? Does the book exemplify warmth, tenderness, courage, humor, and other values and characteristics that we desire our children to be exposed to? Does the book nourish the intellect and fire the imagination? Does the book cross age barriers to be enjoyed by all?

Happy Reading!
