High School of Your Dreams Career Path E-Books
Nancy Nicholson

Consistent with CHC’s understanding that Our Lord has created each student as a unique individual, High School of Your Dreams was developed by Nancy Nicholson as an approach to high school that can be tailored to fit virtually any learning style and goal. The expanded 2015 program consists of three essential elements: the Guidebook, the Career Path E-Books, and the Course Resource E-Books. Read on to learn more about the High School of Your Dreams Career Path E-Books.

The High School of Your Dreams Career Path E-Books are designed to help students determine the long-term goal of their studies. The Career Path E-Books describe possible career paths; what courses are needed to prepare for careers in those fields; examples of how those careers might be used in service to Our Lord; and where to find information about degrees and training programs for those fields.

In the seven different Career Path E-Books, fields as diverse as environmental engineering, automotive mechanics, construction, wildlife biology, veterinary medicine, and culinary arts are presented for consideration. After reading and deliberating over the information contained in the chosen Career Path E-Book, parents and teens should have a clearer sense of the direction in which they wish to proceed, or whether a different Career Path might be more suitable.

Also included are detailed sample Individualized Plans (courses of study) written for real students with skills related to the Career Path in question. These plans demonstrate how to adapt core subjects such as English and Math to fit the student’s goals and abilities more precisely, and also suggest related electives and hands-on volunteer opportunities.

Note: The Guidebook, Career Path E-Books, and Course Resource E-Books are each integral parts of High School of Your Dreams and are not meant to be used independently of each other. The first step in planning your student’s high school program is to purchase and read the Guidebook with care. Next, select two or more Career Path E-Books which best fit the student’s interests and goals. Once the student’s career goals have been prayerfully considered in light of the information in the Career Path E-Books, specific Course Resource E-Books can be chosen in order to plan the high school courses which will best prepare the student for his potential career goals.

Note also that there is some repetition or similarity in certain segments of each Career Path E-Book. This repetition ensures that, no matter which combination of e-books is chosen, the parent will have in hand the necessary information to facilitate chosen educational aims.

“With High School of Your Dreams, [our daughter] ... could use real world experiences as part of her study. For instance, we had a dairy goat with a non-simple case of mastitis. This required extensive reading, research, testing, and some involvement with the vet which counted for Biology/Microbiology credit. The experience was so effective, that 6 months later when visiting with some medical students, they were impressed with my daughter's knowledge of microbiology. They said she could easily pass 1st semester Microbiology in college. Another example . . . my daughter taught 2nd grade CCD--she proceeded to develop teaching materials and observe the kids so that she could adjust methods and materials to be effective. Hence, Early Childhood Development credits. My other daughter is working at the vet clinic as a tech helping with surgeries, exams, x-rays, prescriptions; forget the dissections in Biology Lab--she is participating in live surgeries which she enjoys much better . . . [We had] no accredited diploma, but experienced no difficulty in gaining college admission.”

“The greatest surprise for us is the bond that we have formed with our teens. They actually like us! They enjoy our company and we, theirs. They trust our opinion and in return, we trust their judgment in the choices we feel confident they can make.”
- Debbie, Canada
